Former EPA Chief Breathes Easier

Earlier this week, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit held that former EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman could not be held liable for telling New York City residents that the air near the fallen World Trade Center was safe to breathe following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.  The lawsuit, filed by a group of workers and residents that lived near the site, alleged that Whitman and other EPA officials had misrepresented the health risks of the dust and debris from ground zero.  A lower court judge had allowed the case to proceed, labeling Whitman’s actions "conscience-shocking."

This is so infuriating I can barely find the words to speak!! It seems that no one in this administration is ever going to be held responsible for any of their actions. We put our trust in our leaders to tell us the truth/to keep us informed -especially in an emergency situation -they should be punished to the full extent of the law when they violate that trust! The judge who let him off should be removed from the bench! I am tired of the lack of accountability! Between stacking the courts and trying to intimidate judges, making it impossible for anyone to sue an HMO or any companies that have secretly had us under surveillance (to name just a few of the many outrages being done) we are moving dangerously close to a totalitarian society!! Some would say we already have crossed that line.
