Equal Pay Day
Tuesday is "Equal Pay Day": the day when an average woman’s wages finally catch up to the wages earned the year before by the average man. Earlier this month, Fatima Goss Graves, senior counsel at the National Women's Law Center, shared her wish for Equal Pay Day.
We only need to then establish equal loyalty day, equal strategic thought day, equal risk tolerance day, equal entrepreneurship and innovation day, equal abstract modeling day, and equal intertemporal use of capital comprehension day.
Oh wait, we can't, because they can never actually occur. There aren't enough days in the year. Women are superior at many duties and men are superior at others. It is just that the ones men are superior at, are the more scarce and more valuable because of all the things women cannot, do not, and do not desire to do, and therefore are not paid for.
Women have a higher tolerance for detail, and better tactical memories. They better value communication, and they are very good at the sale of low marginal difference products and services because of these factors. The very smartest are still empirical and not theoretical. At the top end, above 130, there are as many as thirty men to one woman. Men are more likely to take associated risks together. They are better at understanding capital and how to allocate it. They are better competitors and can react faster on less information. At the lower end, men do the hard high risk jobs. Women in most of these jobs are inferior and the men still protect them, even in the military, where the men must cover for the weaknesses of women, exposing themselves to danger. There are more truly dim men than women, there are more truly violent men than women. Men are in general more dangerous. However, considering value in the work place, there is little difference in the actual work completed around the mean. But that is not all that we are compensated for even in those jobs. At the top of the scale men are simply better at those jobs than women except for the most rare of examples that do not describe the properties of the group. Women are often foolish and do not demand equal pay. however, men are foolish in not explaining why they don't recieve greater pay: because they are actually over the long term less reliable, dependable and therefore as an investment, which is what salaried workers are, they are less valuable.
I wish for unequal pay day so I can pay people for what they're worth. I wish to get paid for what I am worth. I want all people to get paid what they're worth regardless of their gender. But the work itself is only one component of compensation, and the actual differences of genders in the work place is fairly obvious to everyone who looks at the data.
I am sure this is heresy but it is still true.
