Senate Judiciary Committee Approves Seventh Circuit Nomination

On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved the nomination of Judge John Daniel Tinder to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Judge Tinder would replace retiring Judge Daniel Manion, and has bipartisan support.

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has stated that only nominees with bipartisan support will be confirmed during the last year of the Bush Administration.  “Of the 15 vacancies deemed by the Administrative Office to be judicial emergencies, the President has yet to send us nominees for eight of them, more than half. Of the 14 circuit court vacancies, six – nearly half – are without a nominee,” Senator Leahy said.
