Government Report Says Army Official Subjected To Religious Discrimination
An Army employee lost his security clearance and was subjected to discriminatory treatment because of his religion, according to a report issued this week by the Department of Defense Inspector General.
According to the report, David Tenenbaum was “subjected to unusual and unwelcome scrutiny because of his faith and ethnic background, a practice that would undoubtedly fit a definition of discrimination, whether actionable or not.” The Religion Clause Blog reported that Tenenbaum, an Orthodox Jew, lost access to classified information and had his security clearance revoked on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations that he was spying for Israel.
Also this week, the EEOC updated guidelines for investigating charges of religious discrimination. The new guidelines include examples of religious discrimination and provide employees explanation of their rights under the Civil Rights Act.
