More Criticism of Guantanamo
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Guantanamo Bay detainee Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, who was charged before a military commission tribunal for the attack on the U.S. embassy in Tanzania in 1998, raising questions of whether the Constitution's prohibition on bills of attainder and ex post facto laws would apply. The logistics of the prosecution itself could pose a problem for the government, which does not have enough qualified military defense lawyers for death penalty cases.
Meanwhile, five former U.S. Secretaries of State called for closing Guantanamo Bay: Colin Powell, Madeline Albright, Henry Kissinger, Warren Christopher, and James Baker III.
