Mukasey Goes to the Hill
Attorney General Michael Mukasey is trying to mend fences with Congress following his 53-40 Senate confirmation, according to Roll Call. He is urging the Senate to confirm the administration's picks for high ranking Department of Justice positions, including Steven Bradbury – who authored two secret legal opinions approving severe interrogation techniques – as head of the Office of Legal Counsel.
Roll Call noted Mukasey may clash with Congress in the upcoming year regarding amending FISA and the congressional issuance of contempt citations to Karl Rove, Joshua Bolton, and Harriet Miers regarding the U.S. attorney firings scandal.
